In a nod to our increasingly digital world, the 21st Century Cures Act’s Information Blocking Rule became effective on April 5, 2021, impacting a whole host of individuals and entities operating in the health care space. The Information Blocking Rule applies to “actors,” which includes nearly all types of health care providers, and is far broader than the definition of “covered entities” under HIPAA. Virtually all medical practices must now comply with the Rule’s requirements.
